Whereas
many shaft
seals feature only one spring-loaded lip,
it is possible to design a seal with two spring-loaded
lips. The double-lip
seal shown in Figure 67 is
one example. Double-lip seals are typically used
to separate fluids. Because of their unusual design,
double-lip seals require greater bore depth
than standard shaft seals. As with standard shaft
seals, it is also possible to design a double-lip
seal with a rubber O.D. An
example of this is shown in Figure
68.
