Double Lip Seals.

Whereas many shaft seals feature only one spring-loaded lip, it is possible to design a seal with two spring-loaded lips. The double-lip seal shown in Figure 67 is one example. Double-lip seals are typically used to separate fluids. Because of their unusual design, double-lip seals require greater bore depth than standard shaft seals. As with standard shaft seals, it is also possible to design a double-lip seal with a rubber O.D. An example of this is shown in Figure 68.

“Though the standard shaft seals shown previously are ideal for a wide variety of applications, they are not the best solution to every design problem.”
